| Obverse description | Facing bust of the emperor in the centre of the field, rendered in a schematic early medieval style with beaded ornamentation along the shoulders and neck. The effigy is depicted frontally with a rounded head and stylised facial features, flanked by decorative elements. A circular Latin legend surrounds the bust, reading in abbreviated form the royal titles of Charlemagne. The overall composition closely follows Late Antique tremissis prototypes adapted to Carolingian taste. |
