| Beschrijving voorzijde | The entire field is occupied by a bold nastaliq calligraphic legend in multiple lines, executed in high relief against a finely striated floral background evoking intertwining leafy scrollwork. The royal titulature reads 'al-Sultan ibn al-Sultan Naser al-Din Shah Qajar', asserting the dynastic lineage of the Qajar sovereign. The legend fills the flan edge to edge in the characteristic Qajar epigraphic style, with no figurative motif. The coin is bordered by a continuous outer ring of raised beads following the irregular hammered flan. The overall composition reflects the refined Persian calligraphic tradition employed on Qajar gold coinage of the mid-nineteenth century. |

| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse features a central rectangular cartouche framed by a ruled border, enclosing a multi-line nastaliq inscription recording the mint name and AH date. Floral and foliate sprays in the Qajar decorative style fill the spaces between the cartouche and the outer beaded border, lending an ornate character to the field. The inscription within the cartouche reads 'Zarb Mashhad Muqaddas 1266', identifying the place of minting as the holy city of Mashhad and the Hijri year of issue. A continuous outer ring of raised beads frames the entire design, consistent with the obverse treatment. The hammered technique imparts a slightly irregular outline to the coin, typical of Iranian provincial mint production of this period. |
