A small stag's head appears behind the main effigy, serving as a subsidiary type characteristic of Kyzikene coinage. The Greek legend ΣΩΤΕΙΡΑ (Soteira, meaning 'Saviour') is inscribed in the field, identifying the deity represented. The modelling of the face is accomplished with subtle relief, reflecting the high artistic standards of Mysian die-engravers of this period. |
