正面描述 Laureate head of Zeus facing right, rendered in high relief with exceptional artistic quality characteristic of early Macedonian coinage. The god is depicted with a full, flowing beard rendered in deeply incised curling locks, and luxuriant wavy hair swept back beneath a wreath of olive leaves. The facial features are bold and naturalistic, exhibiting a powerful, mature male countenance with a strong brow and well-defined profile. No legend appears on the obverse field.

附加信息

Philip II began striking silver tetradrachms at Amphipolis almost immediately after seizing the city in 357 BC, recognizing its proximity to the Pangaion silver mines as the financial engine his military ambitions required. The Amphipolis mint would go on to fund the army that conquered Greece and, indirectly, the campaigns of Alexander. Le Rider 15 falls among the earliest issues of this long series, struck while Philip was simultaneously consolidating Macedonian territory against Illyrian pressure to the west and Athenian interests to the south.
