In his outstretched right hand he holds a small standing figure of Hekate, the goddess depicted holding a torch in each raised hand, a distinctive iconographic choice unique to Pantaleon's coinage. In his left hand Zeus grasps a long scepter. A dynastic monogram appears in the inner left field. The composition follows the enthroned Zeus type established by Seleukid and Baktrian royal coinage, here adapted with the unusual Hekate attribute. |

Pantaleon is one of the more enigmatic figures in Baktrian numismatics — possibly a co-regent under Demetrius I, possibly an independent usurper, and the subject of ongoing scholarly disagreement. What is not disputed is that he was among the first rulers anywhere to strike bilingual, biscript coinage: Greek on one side, Kharosthi and Brahmi on the other, targeting Indian populations south of the Hindu Kush. The silver tetradrachms are considerably rarer than his bronze issues, and HGC 12#100 represents a type with a limited known die pool.
