Lysimachus began issuing tetradrachms bearing the deified image of Alexander only after securing his claim to Macedonia in 288 BC — a deliberate political move to legitimize rule over territory he had seized from Pyrrhus of Epirus. The Amphipolis mint was central to this campaign, producing some of the most carefully executed strikes in the entire series. These coins were still being struck, and widely imitated, long after Lysimachus died at the Battle of Corupedium in 281 BC, which makes precise attribution of late issues to his lifetime a persistent problem for specialists.
