Her left arm rests upon a large round shield decorated with a gorgoneion, and a long spear is propped diagonally behind her. In her extended right hand she holds a small Nike, the goddess of victory, who faces left. The Greek legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ runs along the upper and right fields, identifying the issuing king Lysimachus. A wreath appears in the outer left field, and the letter Σ (sigma) is placed in the exergue as a mint or control mark. |
