| Reverse description | Zeus Aetophoros seated in left-facing three-quarter view upon a throne with a low back, his muscular torso bare and lower body draped. In his extended right hand he holds a long sceptre upright, and in his outstretched left hand perches an eagle facing right with wings folded. Beneath the throne, a small eagle or symbol may appear as a control mark depending on the specific issue. The Greek legend ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ runs vertically in the right field within a beaded border, reading from top to bottom. The composition reflects the canonical reverse type established for Alexander III's coinage and perpetuated by his successors. |
