| Obverse description | Quadriga driven at full gallop to left, guided by a charioteer who holds the reins in both hands and a kentron (goad) in his right hand. Nike flies right above the scene to crown the victorious charioteer with a wreath. A grain ear is displayed in the exergue, a characteristic emblem of Syracusan civic pride and fertility. |

| Reverse description | Large facing head of the nymph Arethusa turned to right, her hair bound in an ampyx and sphendone adorned with stars, wearing a double hoop earring and a necklace with six pendant drops. Four dolphins swim in the surrounding field, symbolising the island spring of Ortygia. The retrograde ethnic inscription ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΩΝ arcs around the design. |
