| Obverse description | Quadriga driven at full gallop to left, guided by a charioteer who holds the reins in both hands and a kentron (goad) in his right hand. Nike flies right above the scene to crown the victorious charioteer with a wreath. A grain ear is displayed in the exergue, a characteristic emblem of Syracusan civic pride and fertility. |
