| Obverse description | Sea eagle (aquila marina) standing left on a dotted ground line, rendered in finely detailed high relief with carefully engraved feathering across the wings and body. The bird's head is turned slightly forward, with a hooked beak and alert expression characteristic of the Akragantine die-cutter's style. The civic legend AKRACANTOΣ is disposed around the field in Greek letters, partially flanking the figure. The flan is broad and slightly irregular, with the design occupying the full field in the bold, confident manner typical of Sicilian coinage of the Early Classical period. |
