| Beschrijving voorzijde | Full facing head of Hermes rendered in fine high relief, turned very slightly to the left, with idealized youthful features, parted lips, and elaborately rendered curling locks of hair falling on either side of the face. The god wears his characteristic petasos, depicted with a beaded or dotted brim and a rounded crown, set firmly upon his head. The die-work displays the accomplished artistry characteristic of Thracian mint engravers of the early fourth century BC, with careful attention to facial modelling and the naturalistic treatment of the hair. The field surrounding the portrait is plain and unencumbered by legend. |
