| Beschrijving voorzijde | Helmeted head of Athena facing right, rendered in the severe style characteristic of mid-fifth century Attic coinage. The goddess wears a crested Attic helmet adorned with three olive leaves and a palmette at the base of the crest. The eye is depicted in the archaic frontal convention, a hallmark of this transitional period. The cheek guards of the helmet frame the face, and the hair is visible in tight beaded locks along the neck and forehead. The flan is irregular, consistent with hand-struck Athenian coinage of this era. |
