Obverse description Facing head of Hermes, turned very slightly to the left, rendered in fine high relief with softly modelled features characteristic of the mid-4th century BC Thracian engraving tradition. The god is crowned with the petasus, his distinctive broad-brimmed travelling hat, adorned along its brim with a beaded band clearly visible across the forehead. Curling locks of hair emerge from beneath the petasus on either side of the face, rendered in precisely detailed spiral ringlets. The portrait fills the flan with commanding presence, the eyes gazing frontally with a serene, idealised expression.
