Obverse description A biga drawn by two mules advancing to the left, driven by the Nymph Messana depicted standing, her figure turned to the left, holding a goad in her right hand and the reins in both hands. The composition is rendered in fine archaic-transitional style with careful attention to the musculature of the animals. In the exergue, two confronted dolphins are depicted facing one another. The ethnic legend ΜΕΣΣΑΝΑ appears in the field.
