Obverse description Head of a youthful, beardless Herakles facing right, wearing the lion-skin headdress with the scalp drawn over the crown and knotted at the throat, the open jaw and mane rendered in fine detail in the archaic Greek style. The facial features are modeled with careful attention to the cheek, ear, and eye, conveying a serene, idealized masculinity characteristic of early Macedonian coinage. The flan is slightly irregular, as typical of hammered issues of this period.
