| Obverse description | Facing bust of Christ Pantokrator within a beaded inner circle, depicted with nimbus and wearing imperial loros and maphorion. The figure is shown in three-quarter length, raising the right hand in benediction and holding the Gospels in the left. The inscription IC-XC (the Christogram abbreviation for Jesus Christ) flanks the bust on either side of the field. The style is characteristic of late Komnenian Byzantine provincial coinage, with broad, somewhat roughly rendered features. |
