Obverse description Facing bust of Christ Pantokrator within a plain field, nimbus cruciger about the head with pellets in the arms of the cross. Christ is shown draped, holding the Book of the Gospels in his left hand. The Christogram IC-XC is divided by the bust, with IC to the left and XC to the right in Greek majuscule characters. The style is characteristic of late Komnenian Byzantine coinage, rendered in low relief on a broad, irregularly shaped flan.
