| Obverse description | Central field dominated by a crowned royal monogram combining the conjoined initials of Juan III and Catalina, surmounted by an ornate Gothic crown with fleurs-de-lis finials. The monogram is flanked by small pellets or annulets in the field. The design is contained within an inner beaded circle, with the circumferential Latin legend running between the inner circle and the outer toothed border of this crudely struck hammered billon coin. |

| Additional information |
Juan III and Catalina ruled Navarre jointly as co-sovereigns following their marriage in 1484, a constitutional arrangement that reflected the kingdom's determination to preserve its independence between the competing pressures of France and Castile. Their reign ended not through dynastic failure but through military force — Ferdinand of Aragon invaded in 1512 and annexed the kingdom outright, ending centuries of Navarrese sovereignty. Billon coinage of this reign is therefore bounded hard on both ends by political events rather than by any minting decision.
