Obverse description Armored bust of King Stefan Batory facing right, wearing a closed royal crown and plate armor with ornate pauldrons, a sash across the chest, and visible gorget. The effigy is rendered in high relief in the Renaissance portrait style characteristic of late 16th-century Polish coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the bust, reading along the inner border of a beaded rim. The king's features are individualized, reflecting the monarch's likeness as established by royal portraitists of the period.
