Lycian dynastic coinage of the fifth century BC operated outside the Persian imperial monetary system despite Lycia's status as a satrapal dependency — local rulers retained the right to strike silver, a concession Athens never extracted from its own allies. The attribution "uncertain dynast" reflects a genuine scholarly impasse: Lycian inscriptions on coins of this period remain partially undeciphered, and the dynastic succession itself is poorly documented in surviving sources.
