| Beschrijving voorzijde | Abstract Celtic design featuring a central arrangement of back-to-back crescents rendered in relief, surrounded by a symmetrical star pattern composed of ring-pellet ornaments and stylized wreath motifs radiating from the centre. Concealed anthropomorphic faces are incorporated within the angles of the design, a hallmark of Late Iron Age British Celtic artistic tradition. The overall composition is characteristic of the Trinovantian M type, displaying the highly decorative and non-representational obverse style common to gold staters of the Catuvellauni. The field is irregular in shape, consistent with the flan preparation methods of the period. |
