Obverse description Diademed head of the deified Alexander the Great facing right, portrayed in the Hellenistic heroic tradition with finely rendered flowing locks of hair swept back from the forehead. The prominent curling horn of Ammon emerges above the ear, asserting Alexander's divine association with the Egyptian god Zeus-Ammon. The facial features are idealized yet individualized, displaying a strong profile with a slightly open mouth, consistent with the portraiture conventions established at the Macedonian royal mints. The field is plain, with no legend, allowing the powerful effigy to dominate the flan.
