The Lycian dynastic inscription XERẼI WEHÑT appears at the sides of the type, identifying the issuing dynast Kherei of Phellos. The entire design is contained within a recessed incuse square, a hallmark of early Lycian silver coinage. The treatment of the owl closely parallels Athenian iconographic conventions while retaining a distinctly local Lycian character. |
