| Obverse description | Diademed head of the deified Alexander the Great facing right, rendered in fine Hellenistic style with flowing, leonine hair swept back from the brow. A small but distinct horn of Ammon curves behind the ear, asserting Alexander's divine status as son of Zeus-Ammon. The diadem is depicted as a plain fillet tied at the nape, and the portraiture displays the characteristic upward gaze and slightly parted lips associated with posthumous idealized representations of Alexander. The flan is slightly irregular, as typical of hammered gold staters of this period. |
