| 裏面の説明 | Within an incuse concave circle, an amphora is depicted centrally with an ivy leaf hanging from each handle, referencing Dionysiac iconography common in Boeotian coinage. Above the amphora, a club is shown oriented to the right, an attribute of Herakles and a frequent symbol on Theban issues. An olive spray appears to the left of the central device. The magistrate's name is inscribed across the field in two parts, divided by the amphora. |

Thebes struck these staters during one of the most turbulent stretches in Boeotian history — the period bracketing the Spartan seizure of the Cadmeia in 382 BC, when a Spartan garrison occupied the Theban citadel in a surprise coup engineered by the polemarch Phoebidas. The occupation lasted until 379 BC, during which Theban civic institutions were suppressed and coinage output almost certainly disrupted. Staters attributable to the years immediately before the seizure are consequently difficult to sequence with confidence, which accounts for the variety designation against BCD 487.
