A laurel wreath is draped across the mouth of the vessel between the two scrolled handles. The Greek magistrate's legend HI-KE (HIKE) is inscribed in archaic Greek characters, divided to the left and right of the amphora in the lower field. The entire design is set within a shallow incuse square, consistent with hammered coinage of the Boeotian federation. |
