The Cantii occupied the southeastern corner of Britain — modern Kent — and were among the tribes Caesar encountered directly during his expeditions of 55 and 54 BC. These staters were likely struck in the decades immediately following that contact, a period when cross-channel trade with Gaul was reshaping how British tribal elites stored and displayed wealth.
