Beschrijving voorzijde Bare head of a youthful male facing right, rendered in fine early classical style with softly modeled features, almond-shaped eye, and slightly parted lips. The hair is dressed in loose, naturalistic curls swept back from the brow and secured by a simple taenia or headband, whose ends trail behind the neck. The portrait fills the field generously, conveying an idealized, athletic quality characteristic of Macedonian royal coinage of the late fifth to early fourth century BC. No legend appears on the obverse.

Aanvullende informatie

Aeropos II seized the Macedonian throne around 399 BC after the murder of Archelaus, ruling during one of the kingdom's most volatile succession crises — a period when at least four kings came and went within a single decade. His reign of roughly four years was long enough by the standards of that particular stretch of Macedonian history. The coinage attributable to him is scarce, and the SNG references that anchor this type draw on a very thin corpus of confirmed specimens.
