| Reverse description | A quadripartite incuse square deeply impressed into the reverse flan, divided into four roughly equal recessed compartments by raised ridges meeting at the centre, a standard reverse type employed on archaic electrum coinage of Kyzikos. The incuse is irregular in outline, consistent with hand-struck hammered coinage of the sixth to fifth century BC. Two of the quadrants appear more deeply recessed than the others, creating a play of light and shadow characteristic of this technique. The surface within the incuse panels is uneven and granular. No inscriptions or additional devices are present. |
