| Obverse description | Perseus depicted nude save for a chlamys fastened at the neck, shown kneeling to the right in the characteristic Knielauf pose, his head turned back to the left. In his right hand he brandishes a harpa, while his left hand holds aloft the severed head of the Gorgon Medusa. Beneath the figure, in the exergue, a tunny fish swims to the right — the civic badge of Kyzikos, present on virtually all Kyzikene staters. The style is characteristic of the severe period of Greek coinage, with bold, confident engraving. |
