Obverse description A feline predator, most likely a panther or lion, rendered in high relief within a recessed rectangular field, depicted in a crouching or lunging posture with head lowered, clutching a tunny fish (tuna) beneath its forepaws. The figure is modeled with confident archaic craftsmanship, the musculature summarily but powerfully indicated. The tunny fish, a civic emblem closely associated with Kyzikos, is shown horizontally beneath the animal. The surrounding flan is of typical irregular, bean-shaped Kyzikene form, with the design area slightly raised above the broad, plain field.
