Beneath the eagle, a tunny fish swimming to right serves as the civic badge of Kyzikos, a motif characteristic of the city's electrum coinage. The entire design is enclosed within a raised border ring that delineates the coin's tondo, consistent with the artistic conventions of Mysian electrum staters of the fifth and fourth centuries BC. The field is smooth and the relief crisp, reflecting the high craftsmanship associated with the Kyzikene mint. |
