| Obverse description | Europa seated sidesaddle upon a bull striding to the left, her right hand grasping the animal's horn and her left hand resting upon its hindquarters in a composed, archaic pose. The bull is rendered with careful attention to musculature, its tail raised and legs in motion. Beneath the bull in the lower field, a tunny fish swims to the left, serving as the characteristic Kyzikene mint mark. The overall composition fills the flan with the assured, slightly stylized elegance characteristic of Archaic Ionian die-engraving. |
