Reverse description A bold cross potent set upon three steps occupies the center of the reverse field, a standard Christian symbol of imperial and divine power employed on Byzantine solidi of this period. The steps are rendered in careful relief, conveying a three-dimensional architectural quality. The exergual inscription CONOB identifies the mint as Constantinople and certifies the standard gold fineness. The surrounding circular legend is divided by the cross motif, with a officina letter present. The design is enclosed within a beaded border, consistent with hammered Byzantine gold coinage of the early eighth century.
