| Descrizione del dritto | Frontal bust of Emperor Mauricius Tiberius, helmeted and cuirassed, facing the viewer directly in the hieratic Byzantine imperial style. The emperor wears an elaborately ornamented helmet adorned with pendilia hanging on either side of the face, and a jewelled cuirass draped with a paludamentum fastened at the right shoulder. In his right hand he holds a spear, and in his left a shield ornamented with a horseman motif. The surrounding Latin legend reads D N TIbER MAVRIC PP AVG, contained between two concentric circular borders. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | A winged Victory stands facing, rendered in the classical Byzantine manner, with large spread wings rising symmetrically on either side of the figure. She holds a long staff or sceptre topped with a cross in her right hand and a globus cruciger in her left. The figure stands upon a line representing the ground. The lateral field is inscribed with the legend VICTORIA AVGG, with the officina letter B to the right. In the exergue, the mint mark CONOB confirms the standard fineness of Constantinople gold, struck at the Ravenna mint. Two concentric circular borders frame the design. |
