| Reverse description | A cross potent set upon three steps occupies the central field, a standard reverse type for Byzantine gold coinage of this period symbolising the triumph of Christianity. The legend is arranged around the device in the field, with the officina letter appearing as a suffix to the reverse legend. The exergue contains the mint mark CONOB, the standard guarantor of Constantinople mint gold of full weight and fineness, preceded by the officina letter identifying the specific workshop. The design is executed with the crisp, flan-struck clarity typical of the Constantinople solidus at its height. |
