Obverse description Facing busts of Leo IV (left) and his son Constantine VI (right), both shown in full imperial regalia with jewelled loros draped across the chest. Leo IV wears a crown surmounted by a cross potent and pendant lappets, while Constantine VI wears a similar jewelled crown. Both figures are rendered in the hieratic frontal Byzantine style, with stylised facial features and finely detailed imperial vestments. The surrounding legend, divided between left and right fields, identifies the two rulers in a combination of Greek and Latin characters. A dotted border frames the composition.
