| Beschrijving voorzijde | Frontal crowned bust of Empress Irene, facing, wearing a jewelled crown surmounted by a cross and adorned with pendilia falling to the shoulders, clad in elaborately jewelled imperial loros. She holds a patriarchal cross potent in her right hand, while a small cross on globe appears to the left of the effigy. The legend IRIhH AΓOVSTI flanks the bust in the fields, rendered in a mixed Greek-Latin script characteristic of late 8th-century Byzantine coinage. |
