Obverse description Facing bust of Constantine IV in military attire, wearing a plumed helmet and cuirass decorated with scale or lorica pattern, with a short beard rendered in stylised Byzantine fashion. The emperor holds a spear diagonally over his right shoulder and a shield adorned with an eagle device is visible at lower right. The legend surrounds the bust in the field, read in two columns to either side of the effigy. The portrait displays the characteristic frontal rigidity of middle Byzantine imperial coinage, with bold, deeply struck facial features.
