| Reverse description | A large patriarchal cross potent on a stepped base of four degrees occupies the centre of the reverse field, a standard type of Byzantine gold coinage symbolising the True Cross. The legend VICTORIA AVGU is disposed in two vertical columns flanking the cross, with the officina letter (A, B, S, H, N, or Θ) appearing in the lower right field. The exergue reads CONOB, the standard Byzantine mint mark denoting gold of the highest purity struck at Constantinople. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border, typical of hammered Byzantine solidi of this period. |
