Flanking the cross are partial legends, with the mint signature CONOB appearing in the exergue, denoting gold of the highest purity struck at Constantinople or an authorized mint. The letter Θ and numeral I appear as officina or regnal year markers. The overall design is rendered in the somewhat rough, provincial style associated with the Carthage mint workshop. |
