Obverse description Armored equestrian effigy of Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, depicted in full plate armor astride a caparisoned horse galloping to the right, the duke brandishing an unsheathed sword aloft in his right hand. The horse and rider are rendered in fine Gothic relief with elaborate detailing on the armor and horse trappings. A beaded inner circle frames the central device, with the provincial name appearing in the exergue below. The surrounding legend in uncial Gothic lettering runs clockwise within the outer beaded border.

Reverse description A quartered Burgundian heraldic shield, bearing the arms of Burgundy-modern and Burgundy-ancient, is superimposed upon a floriated cross pattée whose four arms extend to the inner beaded circle, each arm terminating in a stylized pinecone finial. Small trefoil or floral ornaments occupy the angles between the cross arms. The shield is rendered with fine Gothic engraving, and the overall composition reflects the high craftsmanship of the Ghent atelier. The surrounding legend in uncial Gothic lettering is contained within a double beaded border.
