| Reverse description | Central field bears the Portuguese royal arms: a cross composed of five escutcheons each charged with five bezants (quinas), arranged in cruciform pattern within a circular shield, enclosed by a double inner circle. Four small quinas shields are disposed in the cardinal positions, with a fifth shield at the base, forming the traditional arms of Portugal. The circumferential legend reads I:EMANVEL:R:P:ET:A:D:GVINEE, separated from the central device by a linear border. The hammered strike has resulted in slight irregularity of the flan, typical of early 16th-century Portuguese copper coinage from the Porto mint. |
