Reverse description Quartered royal shield of Castile and Leon displayed within a quatrefoil or lobate inner border, the quarters alternating between the castle of Castile and the lion of Leon in the traditional heraldic arrangement. A bold cross divides the shield into four quadrants, its arms extending to the inner border. The peripheral legend in Gothic Latin letters names the issuing monarch as King Henry IV by the grace of God, running along the outer circumference between two beaded borders. The mint mark of Cuenca is present in the field, consistent with issues of this denomination from that mint during the final years of Enrique IV's reign.
