Obverse description Crowned facing bust of Alfonso V occupying the central field, depicted in a stylized Gothic manner characteristic of late medieval Aragonese coinage. The king is shown with a large ornate crown surmounting his head, with the bust rendered in low relief against a plain field. A beaded inner circle frames the central device, separating it from the surrounding Latin legend. The portrait exhibits the flat, hieratic quality typical of hammered silver coinage of the period. The legend ALFONSUS DI GRACIA REX ARAG runs around the periphery, identifying the monarch as Alfonso, by the grace of God, King of Aragon.
