| Beschrijving keerzijde | A cross pattée occupies the central field, its four arms splayed and boldly rendered in the hammered medieval style. Each quadrant formed by the arms of the cross is adorned with a stemmed trefoil or clover motif, lending a decorative quality to the composition. The surrounding circular Latin legend invokes the patron saint of Ascoli Piceno and is separated from the central device by a plain or beaded border. The overall design is consistent with the devotional reverse types commonly employed on communal Italian billon coinage of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. |
