The surrounding circular Latin legend invokes the patron saint of Ascoli Piceno and is separated from the central device by a plain or beaded border. The overall design is consistent with the devotional reverse types commonly employed on communal Italian billon coinage of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. |
