Nāṣer al-Dīn Shah's monetary reforms of the 1850s were driven partly by the humiliation of wildly inconsistent coinage circulating across Iranian provinces — weights and fineness varied so dramatically that bazaar merchants routinely weighed coins rather than counting them. The Tehran mint's Type B issues were part of a centralizing push, though provincial mints continued undercutting the effort for years.
At 13 mm, this is a coin that disappeared into purse linings and was seldom saved.
