Pfennig - Meinhard II St. Veit

Meinhard II acquired Carinthia in 1286 through a pledge arrangement with Rudolf of Habsburg, who granted him the duchy in exchange for political and military support during the consolidation of Habsburg power in the region. The St. Veit mint, long the administrative heart of Carinthia, had been producing pfennigs in this thin, broad-flan style — the so-called Friesacher type tradition — since the twelfth century, though Meinhard's issues represent a late and increasingly debased phase of that coinage.

Meinhard died in 1295; the date range on this type extends to 1320 because his successors continued striking under the same general authority before the line expired.
