Obverse description Within a plain square inner frame set against a flat field, a stylized frontal bust of Duke Frederick the Handsome is depicted in low relief, rendered in the characteristic schematic manner of early 14th-century Austrian bracteate-influenced pfennigs. The figure displays a rounded head with rudimentary facial features and outstretched wings or mantle to either side, evoking a heraldic eagle or draped shoulders typical of Viennese pfennig iconography of this period. A small shield device appears at the lower right of the inner frame. The overall composition is bold and symmetrical, consistent with the die-cutting conventions of the Vienna Mint under the Habsburgs. The coin's irregular flan is typical of hammered small silver coinage of the era.
